The Power Spectrum of Clusters of Galaxies and the Press-schechter Approximation

چکیده
We examine the power spectrum of clusters in the Press-Schechter (PS) theory and in N-body simulations to see how the power spectrum of clusters is related to the power spectrum of matter density fluctuations in the Universe. An analytic model for the power spectrum of clusters for their given number density is presented, both for real space and redshift space. We test this model against results from N-body simulations and find that the agreement between the analytic theory and the numerical results is good for wavelengths λ > 60h Mpc. On smaller scales non-linear processes that are not considered in the linear PS approximation influence the result. We also use our analytic model to study the redshift-space power spectrum of clusters in cold dark matter models with a cosmological constant (ΛCDM) and with a scale-invariant Harrison-Zel’dovich initial spectrum of density fluctuations. We find that power spectra of clusters in these models are not consistent with the observed power spectra of the APM and Abell-ACO clusters. One possible explanation for the observed power spectra of clusters is an inflationary scenario with a scalar field with the potential that has a localized steplike feature. We use the PS theory to examine the power spectrum of clusters in this model. The Effect of Radiative Cooling on the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich Cluster Counts and Angular Power Spectrum: Analytic Treatment
Recently, the entropy excess detected in the central cores of groups and clusters has been successfully interpreted as being due to radiative cooling of the hot intragroup/intracluster gas. In such a scenario, the entropy floors Sfloor in groups/clusters at any given redshift are completely determined by the conservation of energy. In combination with the equation of hydrostatic equilibrium and...

High-resolution N-body simulations of four popular Cold Dark Matter cosmologies (LCDM, OCDM, QCDM, and tilted SCDM), each containing ∼ 10 clusters of galaxies of mass M1.5 > 5×10hM⊙ in a Gpc 3 volume, are used to determine the evolution of the cluster mass function from z = 3 to z = 0. The large volume and high resolution of these simulations allow an accurate measure of the evolution of cosmol...

We present a method for determining the rms mass fluctuations on 8 h −1 Mpc scale, σ 8. The method utilizes the rate of evolution of the abundance of rich clusters of galaxies. Using the Press-Schechter approximation, we show that the cluster abundance evolution is a strong function of σ 8 : d log n/dz ∝ −1/σ 2 8 ; low σ 8 models evolve exponentially faster than high σ 8 models, for a given mas...
متن کاملSupermassive Black Hole Merger Rates: Uncertainties from Halo Merger Theory
The merger of two supermassive black holes is expected to produce a gravitational-wave signal detectable by the satellite LISA. The rate of supermassive-black-hole mergers is intimately connected to the halo merger rate, and the extended Press–Schechter formalism is often employed when calculating the rate at which these events will be observed by LISA. This merger theory is flawed and provides...
